PhotoRescue to the rescue
I recently had an 8GB Compact Flash card lose approximately 2GB worth of photos before I was able to download them.
I tried a number of different tools to try and recover them before stumbling over PhotoRescue 3 from www.datarescue.com.
Not only did the software recover all the lost files, but also was able to recover files that were supposedly [...read more]
Beyond the point of no return
Ok, so it’s about time for an update on the project. This weekend I got stuck into it again and completely broke down the monitor deciding what to keep and what to throw out. This involved cutting some plastic and bending some metal. The monitor won’t be able to be put back together so if this project doesn’t work I’ve just trashed a monitor. Oh well.
On the other ha [...read more]
No progress report
Just a quick update for anyone who’s interested: this project is not forgotten, it’s just been taking a sabbatical. I’ll be picking up from where I left off in the next few weeks so stay tuned! [...read more]
SSD on a budget
I’d love to have SSDs in my computers to run the OSes from. Unfortunately I don’t have a spare $1000; and even if I did, I don’t think I could afford the divorce proceedings that would likely ensue.
AnalogBit.com has an interesting experiment using 6x 2Gb USB flash drives (a.k.a. [...read more]
Still here
I’m still here! I got my PC problems resolved and almost have my worspace cleared enough to get back to my Wapaq project.
I’ve decided that my final Wapaq will be sandwiched between sheets of plexiglass. I’ll be using sheet styrene for any insulation layers I’ll need. I ordered some plexiglass and styrene from eStreetPlastics and this should be here soon.
Progress report
Last week the FFCs ordered from DIY-Beamer were delivered AND I got a Black & Decker RTX rotary tool (just like a Dremel but cheaper) as an early Christmas present.
Unfortunately, my home pc also decided to blow-up over the weekend so all Wapaq plans are currently on hold. [...read more]
Please mister postman
Please Mister Postman, look and see
(Oh yeah)
If there’s a letter in your bag for me…
… ahem …
Ok, so I just ordered the longer FFCs and couplers from DIY-beamer.com – they’re in Austria and I’m all the way over the other side of the Atlantic: I might have been able to get what I [...read more]
Less haste … more speed
Great – I have the graphics tablet and a suitable monitor, time to get out the tools and see what I can make.

Well that was easy, I’ve managed to bag myself what I hope is the perfect monitor! A Compaq TFT5030 monitor: it works perfectly, has an external power supply and is the right size. It even has dual [...read more]
Monitor hunt
So .. what exactly am I looking for? Well for a start I need an LCD monitor, somehow I don’t think a CRT would be the same. The monitor should work obviously – I can handle a broken backlight but if it works, so much the better. I haven’t decided on what kind of backlight I’m going to use R [...read more]
